Another working week will soon draw to a close. Not a moment too soon, yes? This is, you may recall, our treasured signal to daydream about weekend plans. Our agenda is, not surprisingly, very modest. We hope to promenade with our energetic official mascot, catch up on our reading and stare at the telly now and then.

And what about you? This is a fine time to do a little spring cleaning. You could also take a stroll or two and enjoy the seasonable weather. Or you could reach out to some older folks who still feel isolated. Well, whatever you do, have a grand time. But be safe — wear a mask. See you after the long holiday weekend on this side of the pond.

 

With a little luck and a lot of science, the world might soon get a vaccine against Covid-19, but a vaccine  may not necessarily prevent all or even most infections. In the public imagination, vaccines are often seen effectively as cure-alls, like inoculations against measles.

 

Rather than those vaccines, however, the Covid-19 vaccines in development may be more like those that protect against influenza
