No CommentsSpecialty labels and markings provider, Schreiner MediPharm has developed an NFC-Label for the YpsoMate auto-injector to supports smart self-medication.
The new NFC label is capable of transmitting stored information regarding the medication to its electronic add-on, the SmartPilot. The data recorded by the SmartPilot and logged use of the auto-injector are ideally complemented.
YpsoMate is an auto-injector for self-medication of various pharmaceutical substances in diverse therapeutic areas.
Ypsomed has developed the SmartPilot, a reusable add-on with embedded sensor technology, to turn the injection platform into a smart device.
The NFC-Label is applied to the injection aid and when the auto-injector is pushed into the SmartPilot, the label automatically recognizes the smart pilot. The information regarding the medication is stored on the NFC chip is used by the SmartPilot and transmitted to a related smartphone app via a Bluetooth connection.
For the connected device Schreiner MediPharm has adapted the technology based with interlinking of diverse sensors and the label with an integrated NFC chip to use in YpsoMate. The NFC chip identifies and authenticates the medicine and checks its expiration date.
The company says that, the patient can be guided in real time through the injection process by means of the SmartPilot sensors can be transmitted. It is also possible to store the entire injection history in detail from the injection time and its working through to the patient’s condition and to share it with others.
Schreiner MediPharm RFID/NFC solutions product manager Arne Rehm said: “The integration of NFC technology, which has to ensure reliable reading, in a very small space posed the primary challenge in this label development. Subsequent ease of processing was another specified objective.”
